Therapeutic Riding, Hippotherapy, and Equine-Assisted Learning

Description text

Therapeutic Riding

Therapeutic riding lessons are conducted by PATH International-certified instructors who are specially trained to work with people with disabilities.

While horseback riding has an inherent therapeutic value, lessons focus on teaching skills that help riders achieve goals in their life away from the barn.

Hippotherapy

A licensed therapist in good standing with state and national accrediting bodies uses the horse as a treatment tool to work towards functional physical, occupational, and/or speech-language goals.

The positive impacts of this program are well recognized and documented, including improved strength, balance, confidence, and speech.

Equine-Assisted Learning

An experiential learning experience aimed at helping riders learn life skills through ground activities with horses.

Promotes problem-solving, communication, self-regulation, and self-advocacy, builds self-confidence, and encourages a healthy respect for self and others.

Each client works towards specific goals developed with the input of both the client team and the therapist, making each session a unique experience for each rider.

Testimonial

“I see her self-confidence in her posture – she’s sitting tall and straight – and I hear her say out loud: Knox, walk on!”

~ Three Gaits Family

"We have seen many improvements in Kira’s physical skills through her riding lessons.  Kira was born with low muscle tone and muscle fatigue.  We have seen Kira meet her PT goals faster since she started riding horses."

~ Three Gaits Family

“When students gather before class, they practice social skills with greetings and small talk. In class, riders take turns leading a pattern or demonstrating a skill, which builds self-confidence and pride."

~ Emily Gonzales

Three Gaits Program Manager

"We are so thankful for every opportunity and lesson learned for Kira at Three Gaits.  We are thankful for the instructors who give each rider encouragement and praise while challenging them to be better riders.  We are incredibly thankful for everyone who makes Three Gaits the amazing place that it is."
