40 Years of Service

Description text
ThreeGaits

Three Gaits - a reference to the three movements of a horse - was started in 1983 by Gail Brown and Lorrie Renker with just two horses, eight riders, a love for horses, and an interest in providing equine-assisted activities for individuals with disabilities in Dane County. Community support for the program was enthusiastic, and by 1986, Three Gaits was able to purchase our 20-acre farm located on Highway 138 between Stoughton and Oregon.

Today, ten specially trained program horses, hundreds of volunteers, and 10 staff members provide riders of all ages the opportunity to extend therapy, special education, and interpersonal skill development through individual and group lessons and meaningful horsemanship experiences.

Three Gaits has been a Premier Accredited Center with the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH) since 2002.  Our riding instructors are certified through PATH and our programs carefully follow the safety standards and quality controls established by PATH.

The steady growth of Three Gaits' therapeutic riding program and the continued demand for services is evidence that students and their families, as well as service providers and other professionals, recognize the program’s positive impact on the participants’ lives.

If you have been a part of the past 40 years, thank you for helping us get to here. And please join us as we build an even brighter future!
